Outdoor Instructor Training Course

2009 Course dates: 14th September to 23rd October - 2010 dates to be published in the Spring

If you are looking for that start in the outdoor activity industry then we have the perfect training course that will enable you to gain a grounding in a number of adventurous activities, as well as gain valuable experience, confidence and, where possible, qualifications.

Course Aim:

The main and underlying aim of the our Outdoor Instructor Training Course (ITC) is to train the Activity Instructors of the future to a high and achievable standard.

Our Outdoor Instructor Training course has been designed and developed to ensure that trainees leave with the confidence to go out into the industry and find employment with the knowledge and experience necessary to make a good start within the outdoor industry.

Course Duration:

The course runs on a modular basis over a six week period.

Course Content:

Over the six week period instructors and coaches will cover an array of topics based around a core number of adventurous activities.

The course works on a modular basis, so that trainees can build up skills without interruption over a five day period.

 

Provisional Programme:

Wk 1: First Aid and activity intro's suchas Caving, Surfing & Mountain Biking.

Wk 2: Kayaking Skills & Safety.

Wk 3: Rock Climbing & Abseiling.

Wk 4: Moorland Walking & Navigation.

Wk 5: Open Boating Skills & Safety.

Wk 6: Mountain Biking Award, Gorge Walking, Coasteering etc.

Rather than doing the entire six weeks, we also offer weekly modules (subject to availability), please contact the office for details.

 

Course Outcomes:

Over the six week period of the course there will be the opportunity for trainees to gain a number of qualifications in a range of activities. With the right level of motivation and dedication trainees could leave the course with the following:

* 2 Day Mountain & Outdoor First Aid
* BCU 1 & 2 Star Kayak / Open Boat
* National Navigation Award Scheme Bronze or Silver Award
* BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue Training (FSRT)
* RLSS Emergency Response (weather dependant)
* BCU White Water Safety & Rescue
* Mountain-bike Instructors Award Scheme, Level 1

If trainees have the right level of experience and pre-requisites then further courses, such as BCU Level 1 or 2 coach training and SPA training courses, can be made available.

Due to the nature of the course trainees can undertake any individual weeks on a modular basis. Please enquire with our office for details.

 

 

Course Costs:

The six week course cost will be :

£2200.00 per person inclusive of the following:

• Full board and catering five days a week

• Full use of centre accommodation and self catering facilities at weekends.

• Instruction/Coaching and use of specialised equipment for all activities.

• Transport whilst on activities away from the our centre.

• VAT

Trainee back up:

We not only provide trainees with a excellent start to the world of outdoor activities and education it also provides all trainees with an advice and support service throughout and after the course completion date. This service is designed to help trainees gain that all important first job within the industry.
