Kayaking Skills & Coaching Courses

UKCC Coaching Courses delivered:

Level 1 training and assessment.

This 4 or 5 day combined training and assessment course is obligatory for all  new Canoe/Kayak Coaches. Our professional trainers will give you the best possible start, whether you're a club volunteer or embarking upon a career in outdoor activities. A UKCC Level 1 Coach who successfully completes the course may plan, deliver and review short coaching sessions in multi discipline craft. Candidates should be over 16 tears and hold the new 2 star (from Sep 07) or the old canoe AND kayak 2 star.

 

Level 2 & 3 Coach Assessment courses are still on offer, please contact the office for details.

BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue Training (FSRT)

From this course coaches and paddlers from a wide variety of disciplines, whether bank or boat based, will gain skills and practical delivery techniques in key safety and rescue skills. The FSRT or CST is a pre-requisite for the 4 day UKCC Level 1 Course.

CST

 

Canoe Safety Test (CST), Kayak

This award is designed to provide paddlers with the necessary safety awareness and skills to ensure the safety of themselves and others. The FSRT or CST is a pre-requisite for the 4 day UKCC Level 1 Course.

 

 

White Water Safety & Rescue

A two day course for paddlers of grade 2 water standard who wish to ensure their safety and have the rescue skills to provide safety cover for others.

 

BCU Star Awards 1 to 4 (Kayak)

These star awards allow paddlers from novice to intermediate ability to be assessed against a written syllabus. They range from the novice on flat water (1 star) to the competent paddler leading on moving grade 2 water (4 star).

Introduction to Surf

With some of the best surf in the South West on the MWE door step the coaches are in a wonderful position to provide some top quality surf courses. From introduction to intermediate surfers welcome all students are ensured of an experience to remember.

WW Kayaking Coaching & River Guiding

Based in the South West, with some of the UK's best rivers close at hand the MWE team are able to provide tailor made skills courses to suit all paddling abilities. The local rivers vary from gentle grade 2 water to advanced grade 4 rapids and provide a wealth of opportunities to enhance the skills both on and off the water. (Please note that some rivers are only accessible to paddlers over the winter months).

Accommodation

MWE run a residential centre, with up to 64 bed spaces, just north of Kingsbridge in South Devon. The centre in situated 25 minutes from the local river and 10 minutes from Bantham beach, one of the best surf beaches in the South West, it is fully equipped for groups and can be run on a full-board or self-catering basis (subject to availability). The facilities of the drying room, bar and comfortable accommodation make it the ideal place for that weekend paddling.
